Essential Oil Infused Fruit Salad by Kellie Blake RDN, LD

Eating is one of my favorite pastimes!  Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to eat and I love snacking!  But, I've been altering my diet to help control my autoimmune disease, so some of my snack options have changed.  My favorite go-to snack before I started following my gluten free/dairy free diet was a granola bar with peanut butter.  While there are definitely some great gluten free alternatives in the granola bar category, I have decided that I need to branch out and maximize my nutrition in any way I can.  So, I've been trying to shovel in as many fruits and vegetables as possible to increase my intake of antioxidants, phytochemicals, and fiber; all nutrients that are so important when battling autoimmune disorders.

I've found that snack time can be a great time to increase my intake of fruits and vegetables!  So, this week I decided to combine my favorite fruit salad recipe with my Young Living Essential Oils to maximize not only the taste, but the nutritional benefits!  This recipe is versatile and each time I make it, I vary the types of fruit.  Each variety of fruit contains its' own unique nutritional benefit and keeps things interesting!  Adding the Young Living essential oils is a great way to enhance the refreshing taste!  The Lemon and Orange Essential Oils combine with all the other fruity flavors to add zest and one of a kind flavor!!

Ingredients:

1 cup pineapple

1 cup blackberries

1 cup blueberries

1/2 cup papaya

10 strawberries, halved

1 cup grapes

Sauce:

1 Tbsp Honey

1/2 cup 100% orange juice

Dash nutmeg

1 tsp ginger

A few drops each of lemon and orange

  Young Living essential oils

Directions:

Combine all fruit in a large bowl.  In a small bowl, combine all ingredients for the sauce and mix well.  Add the sauce to the bowl of fruit and combine.  Store in the fridge for up to 1 week (if it lasts that long)!

Changing dietary habits can be tough, but finding alternatives and doing healthy things for your body that make you feel great can help keep you on track!  There is a way to feel better every day and it starts with changing what you're putting into your body. Seeing results in your quality of life makes changing your lifestyle less daunting and overwhelming!  Pretty soon, you'll have a new routine and a new outlook!

Note:  I do not recommend ingestion of essential oils that are not labeled for internal use.
